What clients say

When I moved into a plainer-than-vanilla apartment in Portland’s Pearl district, I asked Vicki’s help in warming it up and making it my own. She turned it into a stunning setting for my large art collection. I collect German expressionist prints and contemporary works on paper and Vicki helped me edit and place key pieces in a way that highlighted them dramatically. Additionally, she suggested furniture and designed a custom rug in deep, rich tones that made the apartment feel like a collector’s salon. It was all achieved through the magic of a trained designer’s eye and her knowledge of the possibilities of color, texture, and contrast. She also had sources for exquisite one-of-a-kind items from all over the world— a handmade blanket, a hexagonal bowl—that added the little touches so important to pulling together an entire look with a real aesthetic. The end result was a living space that expressed my likes and wants and highlighted the items and pieces I feel most attached to.

“If you are looking for a designer who is a purist and loves older homes, look no further than Vicki Simon. We worked with Vicki last year on our 1941 rancher in Portland. I was overwhelmed with moving across the country and converting this house into our home. Vicki is a true professional and I enjoyed working with her. I felt that she was fully committed to our project, communicated clearly and always on the look out for items that would fit the look and home we desired. She is a classically trained designer that sees beyond simple “on-trend” styles. She prides herself on, and finds enjoyment with, finding key, unique pieces that bring back the true nature of your home. At times, this can lead to expensive (and high quality) pieces, yet she is more than happy to find alternatives to meet your budget.”

It was a pleasure working with Vicki, I would recommend her to anyone looking for a purist who loves the details and making your house into a home you are proud of. Thank you Vicki!”

“I was quickly impressed with the project Vicki was prepared to commence, renovating a kitchen, bath, and living spaces. Her illustrations and drawings were quite exacting in scale and presentation of materials used. The style and character of the project had been clearly visioned and very well conceived, and appreciably understood as she comprehensively directed the project phase by phase. Significant aspects of the work were by no means off the shelf so to speak, where vintage elements were considered. Her selection of such doors and hardware, essential to the styling, were weighed smartly in all of the details. Vicki Simon design is intrinsic, her interest and research are exhaustive. I’ve had the privilege to work closely with her though extensive renovation and greatly appreciate her direction, educated insight, experience, and talent.”

“Vicki Simon is the epitome of a top professional: Detail oriented, she is on time, on target, on budget, and knowledgeable about sources, prices and contractors. She has the gift of navigating difficult situations with tact and grace, a bonus to her innate and aesthetic design sense. Vicki quickly sized up the beautiful “bones” of our Tahoe home and designed a gorgeous kitchen that fit like it was original only better because it has all the efficient technology and luxury features of a modern space.”

“Love Vicki! She sees the details that you do not think about. Our house has a lot of character just from how it was built and Vicki treated that character with heightened awareness and respect. She will never override your vision and ideas, more like, she gives you the extra courage to just do it! I love my kitchen and the way she planned it out, it functions way better than before and looks pretty to boot!”

“We hired Vicki Simon Interior Design several months before construction started on the addition and remodel on our Palo Alto, CA residence in 2010. And it was a great decision. We had an architect who was doing the layout and focusing on ensuring the exterior look and Vicki was fantastic at filling in the interior details in parallel. Her eye for color is superb and she has exacting standards for creating that “just right” look. Our house was built in 1938 and a prime design goal was to ensure that the new rooms look like they have always been there. Vicki was great at translating that into real life details, from finding the right points to transition baseboard/ molding to the finish on the hardware to the look of the exterior fixtures. We had a very tech savvy crew overall, but we particularly loved Vicki’s ability to work through pictures and emails and be responsive as questions arose during construction. In fact, the process was so smooth that we hired her again on a smaller bedroom remodel three years later, after she had moved to Portland, OR. We highly recommend Vicki Simon.”

“My husband and I live in a 1913 cottage with a circa 1983 kitchen. I wanted to restore the charm, but was in desperate need of some vision and guidance as to how to get there. I felt overwhelmed by the options and not sure how to navigate the process. Vicki was the perfect answer! From the get-go she was reliable, enthusiastic, and her passion for the work is infectious. She is also reliable, very detail-oriented, and has great follow-through. She helps you consider things you wouldn’t have thought and comes up with creative solutions.”

“Vicki embraced the project with enthusiasm, order and creativity. She listened to what we wanted, tactfully redirected when needed, but also pushed us gently to try new things. I trusted her completely and was never sorry. She respected our desire to use vintage things whenever possible and helped us locate good sources as well. Her sense of color and design is impeccable. Her background in architecture adds to her fine sense of design. She made sure our cherished bits of art and collectibles found a place in the sun. Before we worked with Vicki I thought they wouldn’t fit in, but now things work together and make sense. A big plus is we had a lot of fun working together. We adore our home....thanks Vicki!”

“We loved that whole experience. She thoughtfully identified the strengths, challenges and possibilities for the house’s overall design. Her written summary for improving each room/area of the house was specific, easy of follow, and flexible. We followed the actions of the summary like a map! Her recommendations on color, lighting, flooring, and stair design were spot on for our taste. The design changes and stunning end results went beyond what we could have imagined. Thankfully, Vicki could imagine it, and had the professional skills and vision to execute a plan. We hope others have the pleasure of collaborating with Vicki, a lovely person and gifted interior designer.”
